Is it possible that many married Catholics have forgotten that in their sacred bodily joining to become one in body, one in heart, and one in soul they have unmindfully forgotten to put God at the very center of their sacred joining (“not as two separate entities living in their spousal embrace as husband and wife, but one with Christ in the spiritual fruit of their sacred joining”).

The unitive sexual act (embrace) of itself between husband and wife could become selfish if Christ is left out of the sacred embrace of man and wife joining one in body, one in mind, and one in heart (soul).

Have married couples forgotten to put Christ at the center of their spousal embrace in their entire sacramental marriage? Three Be Wed.

I think that many Catholics have forgotten the sacrificial and sacramental nature of the marital union. At least, the full understanding of it, (which was in prior decades commonly understood even among Protestants), has become, at the least, watered down. That may be why the little “exhortation before marriage,” which was once given by the priest just before the exchange of vows, is no longer used. Couples now might hear it and say, “whoa! that’s not what I had in mind!”

I think as Theology of the Body becomes propagated, this will come with it. So we should do our best to promote the proagation of both.

Thanks Jim for sharing. Puts a whole new perspective on things. Something that needs to be read and understood by everyone, even those not getting married, so they understand the impact of receiving a sacrament.
