Hip Dysplasia is a heritable defect transmissable to succeeding generations. Nevertheless it is not a result of inbreeding. In fact, consciensious line breeding is one of the main tools used by breeders to weed out such defects or any defect. Line breeding results in the concentration of a genetic makeup, without regard to whether a particular heritable trait is good or bad.
