Why is premarital sex wrong?

How do we know that though?
Because the unadulterated act is both unitive and procreative. It is obvious. Just as it is obvious that eating both sates hunger and nourishes our bodies. This isn’t some arcane theological point; it’s the simple observation of the basic nature of the act.

But we can eat in other ways that doesn’t satiate/nourish our bodies and that doesn’t mean we are sinning is my point

Why can’t contraception be used so that the act is only unitive

Not as much as you might think. Gluttony is a sin.

Because sex is an action by which God intervenes in the world – it is a sacramental act. By using contraception, we deliberately try to block God from working in us. It’s a violation of the nature of the act and a rejection of one of God’s greatest gifts.

God is a creator of order and harmony. There is order and design in everything we can see including down to the molecules. From how our eye works and relays information to the brain so we have sight to the order of the universe.

He gave us the commandments to help us live with each other and to build society. Included in this is marriage that a man and woman must come before family and friends and God and proclaim their life long commitment to each other. Then sex is within this design.

You just have to look at the current state of affairs. With the arrival of birth control we’ve forgotten that sex results in babies. In the US there have been somewhere around 60 million abortions. We should be shocked at this number. That should knock us off our feet. There are tons of single parent families living in poverty because a partner has taken off. This is not good for individuals, for babies obviously, but also for communities and for a nation. This is a huge train wreck beyond what we can comprehend. And, we are staying on this course.

Sexually transmitted diseases have exploded in the number of people infected and also the types of diseases that are being spread about. This is within my lifetime and since the pill has become widely available. Again, sexual activity outside of God’s plan has resulted in a train wreck.

It is so very selfish for a young man to encourage a sexual relationship with a girlfriend. She is risking becoming pregnant each time and the consequences, as mentioned above. A Catholic young man is to model chastity to his brothers and sisters and this model is desperately needed today. This is what true love is. True love waits for that person who will become their spouse. The other stuff is counterfeit love. It is selfish and self centered.

Overeating isn’t always gluttony though. We have feast days in the church yknow

Can I reccomend you to look up “Humanae vitae”?

Outside of religious reasons - sex outside of marriage= 1. There’s the risk of sexual diseases.
2. There’s the chance of pregnancy. And sometimes that pregnancy ends with abortion.

Also if you’re a guy and you end up having sex with random women - you can be a dad and not even know it.

Or it’s medicine
Medicine does not deliberately block food’s ability to nourish and sate you. It blocks some detrimental effect, sometimes by causing regurgitation or with regurgitation as a side effect. You’re confusing the effect with the cause, in this case. Look into the concept of a double effect; that’s what we’re discussing with inducing vomiting for a medical reason.

Also, as I understand it, the Church allows the use of contraceptive drugs as medicine, but not as contraception. Double effect in practice.

Why do you keep it up? Have read the Father’s post? Have you taken the advice here to read The Catechism and Humanae Vitae? If not there is nothing any of us lay people here can say to satisfy you.

A friend of mine had a grandson and she let me know that he was getting married. I made the comment of great grandchildren and she said that he wasn’t planning on having any with his new wife because, between the 2 of them, they already had 7 children with different partners, scattered around.

I’m sure that when he was 18, it was not on his radar at all to be 38 and be in this situation. Lots of heart ache, lots of regrets. Learn from the mistakes of others and make the decision not to go down that road. Honor God with how you live your life, in your singleness, in your dating life, in your married life. In the end each of us will come before God and give an account. Be a source of blessing in this life and be with God in the next. Make a smart choice today.

Can someone explain to me why premarital sex is wrong between two people who are in love with each other and in a relationship
Well, for one thing, God said so. The Bible indicates that among those who will not inherit the Kingdom of God are fornicators. Some dismiss it as just another sin (the old “golly-gee whillikers, we’re all sinners!” refrain), but in 1 Corinthians St. Paul singles out fornication to be in a class by itself, since in sex we unite with another person, and St. Paul compares fornication to sleeping with a prostitute.

I’ve also read about a chemical released during sex that causes an emotional bond, so ending the extramarital relationship where sex is involved becomes like going through a divorce.

Another reason is that you would be “poisoning” the dating pool (to use a term used by Mary Beth Bonacci). If you lose your virginity to her and you later break up, if you courting/marrying a female virgin, you would be “shortchanging” her in the sense that you would not be returning the same 100% she would be giving you, since you shared part of yourself with another but she saved herself exclusively for you. Similarly, if you take the virginity of a girl, break up with her, and she finds a virgin guy to marry, he would end up being shortchanged - all because of what you did. If both the above occur, you are adding insult to injury, as that virgin guy would not be shortchanged if you did not “poach” the virgin girl from the “pristine water area” of the “pool”. See how this action of yours would ripple and affect many people?

Don’t be ridiculous. Someone who marries a non-virgin isn’t being shortchanged. Let’s avoid the language of purity culture. Charity, not purity, is the focus.

Pope St John Paul II has given us the definitive revelation of the meaning of the sexual communion between a man and a woman. It is a sacrament in that it seals the covenant between a couple that actually makes visible on earth, the covenant between God and man and Christ and the Church.

Scripture is unequivocal about the sacrilege of fornication and adultery. We can know in our very being, the greatness of Gods everlasting covenant with us by our own commitment and fidelity to the covenant we enter in marriage. Having sex without the expression of lifelong commitment to a spouse and respect for the body that is made in Gods very image, is to rob ourselves of a lived holy communion with God.

Short answer:
"Cause the Bible tells me so.
Oh, and the Church.
