Hi mijoy2 If you literaly cant make it to mass and it sounds like you cant, then it’s not a mortal sin.

CCC 2181

The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor.119 Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.
Technically, if you can’t attend Sunday Mass (including Saturday vigil) you should make an appointment to speak with your pastor. He should discuss your alternatives with you and grant you a dispensation, which would probably entail honoring the Lord’s Day on another day.

In Christ’s peace and joy,

Robin L.

MichaelTDoyle:
The Church still requires some small sacrifice on Fridays. abstinence I believe used to be required but in America you can substitute some other sacrifice–not substitute it for nothing. I could be in error on the particulars. Could someone confirm?

Thanks
Yes, abstinence is still required. For people that are not giving up meat on Fridays they are required to give up something else.
I prefer the meatless Fridays, I know I won’t forget because we always have fish on Fridays, I might forget on something else.
Gods peace,
maggiec
