As a Catholic who has recently returned to the Church. Hearing of this scandal, and how it was swept under the rug, and all the unanswered questions. It makes me really question my decision.

How good that you have returned to the Church, and, by the way, welcome to Catholic Answers Forums. Do not let your faith or your peace be derailed by a few bad individuals. There have been unacceptable evils but at all times there has been a lot more good. The Church is cleaning house, and things are getting better, and so I say there has never been a better time to be a Catholic. God bless you.

I am happy that you have returned to the Church. Please do not confuse Catholicism, and what we believe, with the actions of some of its members, meaning a minority of priests and bishops. Their sins are not what our Church is about. Come back for the Eucharist, which you will not find body, blood, soul and divinity anywhere else. You are right to be disturbed by those priests, and Maskell was a monster, but they are not what we believe. I don’t know how long you have been away, but maybe you could look into sitting in on the next RCIA classes, some parishes allow that. Welcome home!
