Am I loosing my mind? I’m a new convert, just informed I’m a neophyte until next easter.
I’ve had a kidney disease and anemia for 5 years now. That’s not the problem.
The problem is now that I am Catholic, lots of bad things have been happening.
As posted a few weeks ago, my husband has been laid off work. Well, cut down to part-time. He is making less than half of what he made before.
I’ve been wanting to be a SAHM and possibly a homeschool them. I have two young children (2yr and 7mo).
The job loss we were dealing with. Well I was resently hospitalized for a Pulmonary Embolism (blood clot in my lung).
I’m back at work now, but still not feeling right.
We may have to sell our home. Which is okay because I want my husband to go back to school. But life right now just seems crazy.
How worthy we are to suffer these trials.

Hi AmberDale,
It does seem that when it rains it pours doesn’t it? It sounds like you have more than your fair share of struggles - I am so sorry. Why is it happnening? Well the job loss I think is fairly common unfortunatly. At our parish they have a special prayer group for people who, like your husband have been laid off. I think it’s named for St. Joesph (the worker?) I don’t blame you for wanting to be a SAHM - I can’t imagine having to work with two little ones to care for also & your health problems on top of that. I will pray that your husband finds a job that pays him enough so you can do that - or you mentioned that he’d like to go back to school? Maybe if he did that by the time your oldest is ready for homeschooling, you’ll be able to be a home?

Please know that I am going to say my rosary for you tomorrow. I pray that even if all your troubles don’t disappear overnight, you’re able to hang on to your faith & the knowledge that God loves you so very much. Here is message for you from our dear Lord:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Congratulations! I am a lifelong Catholic but just recently entered a religious order for lay people. I know what it feels like to be new. It is exciting yet I feel a little uncertain. Neophyte is a term applied in theology for those who have recently been baptized (for all those who don’t know).

I am sorry to hear of this problem.

Perhaps a new opportunity will arise for your husband which will enable you to stay at home. Maybe he will keep his 1/2 job and find another full job as well. My husband worked 1 1/2 jobs at one point so that I could stay home with the kids. My brother and his wife work opposite shifts so that someone is always home with the kids. God allows things to happen in our lives so that we can see things differently…the way He wants us to see. Ask God how and what to see.

Perhaps you should take a little more time for yourself to rest your mind and body. Do you have someone (a relative or good friend) to leave the kids with for awhile? Call your church office and explain your need and maybe they can help you get in touch with someone to help out. Explain your situation.
We may have to sell our home. Which is okay because I want my husband to go back to school. But life right now just seems crazy.
Don’t make hasty decisions that you might regret later. Pray first. Ask God what He wants you to do. I will pray for you too.

Some suffer even greater burdens. Embrace. God loves you very much.

I have a book called Transforming Suffering by Mitchell and Wisemen. It is very good reading to help understand suffering from a wide range of views. You can purchase it here.
amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0385507828/qid=1115938261/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-8195494-4628801?v=glance&s=books

Used it is $2.90 plus shipping
or you can look in your local bookstore or library to save on postage and money. It is well worth reading.
PM me if you have difficulty obtaining it.

Sometimes when we have experiences that bring us closer to God, our spiritual enemy works even harder to pull us away. Don’t despair but continue trusting in God that “in everything God works for good with those who love Him” (Romans 8:28)

Actually, all of Romans, Chapter 8, is very good to read for anyone who is struggling and suffering.

I’ve also found this prayer helpful:

O my Lord Jesus Christ,
I life up my heart to You in my suffering
and ask for Your comforting help.
I know that You would withhold the thorns of this life
if I could attain eternal life without them.
And so I commend myself to Your loving mercy,
accepting this suffering in Your Name.
Grant me the grace to bear it and to offer it
in union with Your sufferings.
Regardless of the suffering that my come my way,
let me trust You always, for You are my Lord,
my God and my All. Amen.

That was the very first thing that came to my mind.

Just remember that whatever it is that happens, Jesus will provide for you and your family. God can always make a good come from troubles. Take a look at the fall of man. Without the fall, we would have no need for Jesus to redeem us and give us the chance to be with God in heaven. I will keep you in my prayers.

God Bless,
Matt

Of corse. The devil wants you back. He doesn’t go after those on his side.

Thank you so much for all your help and answers.

I know that I have finally done something right with my life when I Converted. I have no intentions of leaving, heck I just got here. My Faith is what’s keeping me going.
I asked God yesterday to help me have a better relationship with Our Mother (mary). I know that her prayers can help a lot.
I guess I just wish I knew what the Holy Trinity wants of us now and what we are supposed to do.

I know I can go through these trials for our Lord, because of what he went through for us.

Amber,
I read this tonight and thought of you.
My brothers, count it pure joy when you are involved in every sort of trial. Realize that when your faith is tested this makes for endurance. Let endurance come to its perfection so that you may be fully mature and lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4

Being a Catholic is not easy and it was never intended to be. Just look at the Apostles … St. Matthew suffered his martyrdom by being slain with the sword in Ethiopia. St. Mark died in Egypt after being cruelly dragged through the streets of Alexandria. St. Luke was hanged on a large olive tree in Greece. St. Peter was crucified upside -down in Rome. St. James the Greater was beheaded after a horrible street beating in Jerusalem. St. James the Less was thrown from the pinnacle of the Temple, then beaten to death. St.Philip was beaten then hanged upon a pillar at the famous Heiropolis in Greece. St. Bartholomew was flayed alive. St. Jude was shot to death with arrows. St. Andrew was bound to a cross where he preached to his persecutors until he died. St. Thomas was killed in the East Indies by a lance being driven through his body. St. John was thrown into a caldron of boiling oil and miraculously nothing happened to him. So they banished him to exile on the isle of Patmos where he could not be seen or heard again. Recall that the early followers of Chirst were fed to the lions.

I’ve never seen a Scripture passage that suggests that Christ suffered and died to make us happy in this life. On the contrary, many passages indicate that we should expect troubles and persecutions, and, in fact, that we should rejoice in it. The following story might help put things in perspective …

Two men on a plane who were given parachutes. One was told to put on the parachute because it would improve the quality of his flight --he decided to give it a try, and after the discomfort and burden of wearing it, and after other passengers lauged at and ridiculed him, he took it off. The second passenger was told that he would have to jump out of the plane, and the parachute would protect him from the end of the flight – he did just that, and despite the discomfort, and despite others laughing at him, he was glad to keep it on because he knew what was to come. Basically, too many people are being lead to the faith by hopes for a better life, rather than by looking to death (the “jumping from the plane”) and what we are saved from afterwards. When people commit to Christ because of the latter, they are more likely to endure.

… No amount of ridicule or hardship should ever seperate us from Jesus and His Church if we hold on to the fact that He is saving us from eternal consequences, and let go of the myth that He gives us immediate blessings.
