Why isn't "Thou shalt not assault someone" one of the 10 commandments?

I know it would probably fall under “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” assault feels worse than lying and i’ve been wondering why it wasn’t included.

What are you defining as “assault”? Do you mean hitting a person? Because God doesn’t prohibit hitting a person. It may be sinful or it may not be, depending on the context. I mean…

The fifth commandment forbids murder, which is unlawful killing. Think of the commandments as categories prohibiting related sins rather than specific to a single sinful act or situation. So in that sense, all unjust acts of physical violence are forbidden.

Assault and even killing are also sometimes lawful, even obligated, such as in a just war.

Maybe assault is under the seventh commandment, stealing someone’s human dignity, a very serious offence.

Yes by assault i mean hitting someone. I’m not saying that i want to hit anybody. I was hit by someone and he told the police “It was a slap on the back, a friendly hello” everyone sins…Jesus said to “turn the other cheek” which is what I’ll do.

Doesn’t have to be related to any of the 10 commandments in order to be a sin. That just makes it a MORTAL sin. I’m not sure hitting a person a little too hard on the back qualifies in the same mortal sin category as those things specifically outlined in the 10C.

Except he punched me and then lied to the police about it. It wasn’t a slap on the back.

It is in the Law, covered under thou shalt not murder. , but it wont stop people being violent if they want. We must live our lives as an example
