Why Kansas City is (Mostly) in Missouri

Interesting. I will say this, though. Kansas City, Kansas is not the only competitor to KCMO. There are a lot of suburban cities on the Kansas side that (to my eye at least) enjoy greater growth than that of KCMO. Kansas City, Kansas is sort of like the City of St. Louis. It’s the old “heart” that is rotting while the outer suburban cities are growing and thriving.

No offense if you live in KCMO. There are some neat neighborhoods there. I have relatives who live in the Ward Parkway area in Missouri and some who live in Overland Park Kansas. As between the two, the first is nicer than the second.

Ward Parkway is part of KCMO.

Right. I wasn’t saying otherwise. Some of those neighborhoods along Ward Parkway are astonishingly attractive.

But KCK is, to my belief, a dying “inner city” while the suburban cities in Kansas like Overland Park and Lenexa are thriving.

Personally I like KCMO it has more action andTroost street keeps things going.

On the Kansas side of the KC metro area, there is not only KCK but also the cities of Mission, Mission Hills, Mission Woods, Countryside, Shawnee, Lenexa, Overland Park, Roeland Park, Fairway, Leawood, and Merriam. All of those cities are served by the Shawnee Mission post office, but curiously there is no such city as Shawnee Mission.

There is a city of Shawnee and city of Mission. Shawnee-Mission is a school disctrict that covers both cities.

It’s not mostly in Missouri, it’s entirely in Missouri. Kansas City, Kansas is a separate municipality with the same name.
