Why Moses Fled Egypt

Exodus tells us out of fear “Then Moses became afraid and thought, ‘The affair must certainly be known.’" – Exodus 2:14

Letter to the Hebrews tells us out of faith “By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s fury, for he persevered as if seeing the one who is invisible” - Hebrews 11:27

How do we reconcile these two? Haydocks commentary tells us it may be the time during the exodus when Moses left with his people. Are there any other suggestions?

hi. these are two seperate occasions

in Exodus the “story” starts at verse 11… where Moses (who now knows he is Hebrew) witnesses the beating of a Hebrew by an Egyptian and in anger kills the Egyptian. well the next day he trys to stop the fighting of two Hebrews
who knew about him killing the Egyptian… and said would Moses kill them two (major paraphrase here.) so he fled in fear.

the second account is after he was away along time, God spoke to Moses in the Burning Bush…and was instructed to rescue the Hebrews from Eygpt.

Hebrews is stating the faith and trust Moses to go and be obedient and lead the people out…

actually the whole account is a great read. really recommend it.

I think the Haydock is correct. In Hebrews it’s taking about the second time Moses left Egypt. That when he left after the plagues he did not fear Pharaoh for God was with him. We know with assurance that Moses feared Pharaoh when he fled after murdering the Egyptian. The very reason he left that time was because of fear. The second time though, he was being led by God and was leading God’s people.
