Talked to our Deacon about this…

He called the worship office of our diocese (St. Louis) and they told him to present them at offertory.
Maybe he spoke to a secretary who really didn’t know. We were also told by our Worship Office that the oils , if presented, was to be done before Mass began.

No…he spoke to someone who did know. The deacon is going to do better than just talking to a secretary who “really didn’t know”. This was the instruction from the diocese.

I don’t know why the site link says “old usccb”. but I found this:

old.usccb.org/liturgy/holyoils.shtml
A while ago they massively “upgraded” their website – resulting in no discernible improvement but breaking countless incoming links and making everything much harder to find – and part of the result was shifting a bunch of stuff over to a newly-named “old.” part of their namespace. I don’t know who was responsible, but the whole thing was a complete disaster, and if it were a business the person would have been fired immediately.

Check out the newer Bishop’s website posting. The older instruction (still on-line on the “old” site, note the 1994 date) had it at the offertory. It has been moved to before Mass. We did it after the opening song and before the Introductory Rites.
