Why only ONE Church?

Yes, I know that it is sort of self evident in light of all the dis unity caused by the Protestant Reformation, but I was thinking along the lines of the “Why only ONE Wife/Husband” threads.

Can you come up with a reason or a instruction that there should be only ONE Church? I can think of a few, most of them are really obvious.

Please post some and we will match them up.

Well, there’s the classic:

“…upon this rock I will build my church…” (singular, not plural)
 
Christ came to establish an institution (i.e. Church) that would teach the Truth. Since truth is universal, any church that teaches that truth would be called universal (i.e. catholic). If there is no difference in doctrine, there are not two churches, but one. Therefore, practically, there can be only one true Church.
