I found a fascinating article by a secular pharmacist in a medical pharmacy publication.

You can find it here:

hwbooks.com/pdf/articles/9/aph.1E363.pdf
(I am not sure how to make this a link, so you will need to cut-and paste)

He makes a fascinating secular case for not allowing “Plan B” emergency contraception to be allowed as an over the counter medication.

Will we also settle for a B plan regarding informed consent? …Plan B has a serious ethical problem. Many of our patients hold the belief that human life is to be recognized and protected from the moment of fertilization. Despite the clear evidence for postfertilization effects, deceptively, the patient information provided with Plan B states that it neither causes abortion nor affects an existing pregnancy. Many patients will lose trust in their physicians, the drug manufacturer, and the government if this deception is not corrected.
Recognize that he is arguing that the problem with this approach is insufficient disclosure, not that it is killing a newly-conceived baby.

I would also recognize that he is using an argument that will appeal to the widest range of people, regardless of belief on the humanity of an embryo. Sometimes, when arguing for the truth, we should use the lowest common denominator in order to convince to most people. And this guy may be a secular pharmacist, but he’s a secular pharmacist who’s on our side in this war.
