Why do we pray hypocritically not to recieve Christ before communion? It seems not to just be an edifying quote from the bible as the words are changed to apply to us.

Hi,
This is the second time that I have answered this unusual question recently.

It is not a hypocrtical prayer. We AREN’T worthy to receive Him. We don’t receive Him because we are worthy, but because He, in His infinite generosity, has given Himself to us in this way. “Take and eat!” He said. He also said that He did not come to save the righteous, but sinners. So we qualify to receive Him. We say those words to remind us the we are not worthy and yet He loves us so much!
