While some Protestants like to quote the passage “call no man father”(Mt 23:9) because Catholics call priests “father,” in fact men are often called father in Scripture. The article linked below identifies and discusses some of these passages in Scripture when men are called father…

Hi mdgespencer

Mathew 23:10 also says call nobody teacher. We all know we have fathers and teachers
But should you address them as Teacher or Father. Normally you address people by there names.

I noticed somebody talking to a priest and he Just said to him David and asked him a question. This priest pulled this person up and said to him next time you address me say Father david when you want to speak to me. Why is this?

simple way to refute this just bring up the 10 commandments it says honor your father and mother.

im also sure that there are other passages where it mentions your father.

so if the bible says don’t call anyone father why would the bible mention father more then once in the bible obviously talking about your earthly father. If this is true then the bible is contradicting itself meaning Christ isn’t the truth and we shouldn’t follow him becuase well he lies.

but luckily this isn’t the case so Christ still is the truth.

This would be one of the main reasons shaky ( great user name 👍) :

This first quote is from Pope Pius XII 's Apostolic Exhortation MENTI NOSTRAE (1950). The whole article can be read here

** Celibacy**
  1. The priest has as the proper field of his activity everything that pertains to the supernatural life, since it is he who promotes the increase of this supernatural life and communicates it to the Mystical Body of Jesus Christ. Consequently, it is necessary that he renounce “the things of the world,” in order to have care only for “the things of the Lord”.[30] And it is precisely because he should be free from preoccupation with worldly things to dedicate himself entirely to the divine service, that the Church has established the law of celibacy, thus making it ever more manifest to all peoples that the priest is a minister of God and the father of souls. By his law of celibacy, the priest, so far from losing the gift and duties of fatherhood, rather increases them immeasurably, for, although he does not beget progeny for this passing life of earth, he begets children for that life which is heavenly and eternal. "
Pope Paul VI also alludes to it in his encyclical SACERDOTALIS CAELIBATUS (1967)
