That story has always been one of my favorites. 👍

i saw a program on BH and the German guy who did most of his
preaching in Africa…
I saw the same documentary. Very sad.

Baldness isn’t something to be sniffed at. Alot of women find that sort of thing attractive, why do you think there are so many men with their heads shaved? 😉

Yes, it always amazed me how so many guys who began going bald at 20 get married to the most beautiful girls…

I LOVE this Elisha story. It’s fantastic.

I wonder if anyone has seen this fellow on tv. It is one of the most horrible things I’ve seen as far as televangelism. I mean, you have your traditional things like the 700 club where the guy wants you to buy his book about how the end of the world is next Thursday, but at least these folks do some actual… preaching about Christ.

But this fellow I saw was totally different. He had his hair like you see a lot of Jamaican folks wearing it in movies, all braided into really thick braids. The show was just about exactly like those infomercials they have on for physics and whatnot. He was saying how the Bible has a prophecy about you and he would find it for you. If you called him up and donated $37 (in honor of Malachi 3:7, for some reason), he would search the Scriptures and tell what they had to say about you. It was terrible.

I question why so many get physical healing at a Benny Hinn crusade but I never see that at Catholic services, even at Charismatic ones. As Catholics, we have the Eucharist, isn’t there tremendous power in that? What are we missing then? It seems like Benny Hinn bears much good fruit. Do you know of anyone in the Catholic faith that has the gift of the Holy Spirit for physical healing?

Because it is easy to rack up numbers if you are a fraud and liar.

I only hope that he brings people closer to Christ without making false promises and he himself gets closer as well. Time can only tell.
I agree with you. Especially, that should he be exposed as a fraud (a Peter Popoff was shown to be one on 60 Minutes, I think, in the 80’s), it reflects, in the mind of some people, badly on all Christians.

As you say, we’ll see…

There are healings and conversions at Benny Hinn crusades because God is the healer, and God is the converter. It doesn’t matter if you have Joseph Stalin up there running the healing service, when you have a million people gathered together, worshiping God and calling out for the Holy Spirit, God is going to come.

Which, as a side note, is why I have no problem with people going to Medjugorjie and claiming healings and conversations, even though I don’t believe the blessed virgin is appearing there.

Why don’t you hear as much from Catholic healing services? A few factors play in:
  1. As mentioned before, many of the alleged miracles on Benny Hinn aren’t actually miracles.
  2. Numbers. Benny Hinn crusades get numbers in the thousands in 1st world countries, millions in the third world. Catholic healing services get about a hundred attending. You do the math.
  3. Benny Hinn is internationally televised, so when someone claims a healing then, you hear about it. I’ve never seen a Catholic healer on t.v. If you ever get to sit and talk with some Catholic Charismatics with gifts of healing that work in 3rd world countries, you’ll find that they’re getting even better numbers and results then Benny Hinn.

Very insightful analysis . I totally agree. I find Mr. Hinn offensively flamboyant in his style, yet I know as a fact several people who were actually healed while attending his services. One very public healing everyone knows about - Evander Holyfield’s reknown heart condition was healed allowing him to regain his titlle. It was documented in the national press after attending a Hinn crusade.
