Why so many saints?

i know that we have Saints to encourage us to holiness and to aspire to be as holy as them, but why so many and why do we keep adding more to the fray? Isn’t four thousand enough? I would like to see His Holiness Pope John Paul ll honored this way as he was truly a Saint and a larrge part of the reason that I became Catholic.

You just answered your own question. You have identified with Pope John Paul II because he lived during your lifetime. We need current saints with whom we can identify. So, the more, the merrier!
