Doesn’t the Bible warn us to stay away from those who preach about the end of times prophesies?

Yes, it does. It also tells us that no man knows the day or the hour.

I think, based on what I have learned in my admittedly meager studies on fundamentalism, the “Rapture”, the end times, Bible prophecy etc. is that it is basically sensationalism. It is the pulp fiction of theology. Why do tabloids sell? People have a desire to be shocked and amazed and it has been that way all throughout history. What is more shocking than “The END IS NEAR”? If you actually look at it, the Biblical “proof” for any sort of end times prophecy is slim to none-same with the “Rapture”. They are just more of the “traditions of men”.

Psychologically speaking, it fulfills a need to belong to an exclusive group-one that won’t have to suffer the tribulations or go to hell like everybody else. It also provides simplistic answers to complex questions about the problem of evil and a variety of other issues.

As to the Antichrist specifically, some groups use this figure as a scapegoat. The Seventh Day Adventists say that the Pope is the Antichrist and the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon. If you get people convinced of a real and tangible enemy, it is a source of some unity however imperfect. The folks that call the Pope the “Antichrist” can drum up all sorts of attacks on “popery” while taking the focus off of their own illogical doctrines and false theology.

Remember also what is said about the Antichrist-everyone who denies Christ or preaches a gospel contrary to what He has revealed is an antichrist. All of the “Reformers” were antichrists, anyone who has risen up to attack “Romanism” is an antichrist. Anyone who follows his own will without regard to Christ and His Church, who spread false beliefs, or who does nothing for their unfortunate brothers and sisters is an antichrist.

I have seen it before about the verse in the bible, that says walk walk away from those who preach about the end of times, can anyone reference it?
