Why such hate? (observations from those I know)

Mystophilus:
It doesn’t, but thank you for the thought. Out of sheer laziness, I just prefer it if intelligent individuals, such as yourself, reconsider and check assumptions before asserting them.
Your google searches have not challenged my assumptions. You expanded the subject under discussion, but you did not find Catholic sites, much less an entire Catholic subculture, declaring Protestantism to be the Whore, the Beast or the Antichrist. There is no equivalent to the Jack Chicks of the Protestant world, or the Former Catholics For Christ, to name just two examples.
Heresy = a ticket to Hell, q.v. my response to Kim Wilson on the same point.
The Church makes no such blanket statement. Are you confusing “anathema” with “hell”?

On your journey, I hope you discover what my wife discovered.

She was raised a Protestant and heard many terrible things about the Catholic Church. She began by suspecting that not all of them could be true. She ended by discovering that all of them were false.

God bless.

By far the most vicious haters of the Church that I’ve encountered so far are members of a group called Former Catholics for Christ. Everybody check out their site quick—they have a thread going now about how Mother Teresa was a child abuser.

Half of what I have written on their site has been deleted. Maybe my posts were too convincing or threatening or both. I invited all of them to blog on Catholic forums where anti-catholics are truly welcomed.

BTW the few of my comments that appeared on their site were greeted with accusations of my being a “cultist.” And Mary is referred to as the " Devil in a Blue Dress."

Yeah, Kim I know. I gave up on them when I realized that they were stealing my peace. If you put up an intelligent post with a cogent point it will be ignored, deleted, or mocked.

I seriously think that they are being used as tools of Satan. The things that they say about the Blessed Mother, the Church, and all associated with the Church could come straight from the mouth of Lucifer himself. I have never seen so much hate and lies in my life, and we all know who is the father of division and lies.

Ok, they are malicious and stupid! But what comes out of their mouths is also evil.

Great quote Mr. or Ms. M. I could well apply that to many people–myself included sometimes. Although I think it’s sometimes not so much stupidity as willful ignorance.

I forgot to tell you something that is both funny and sad that I read over there.

Marico was baptized as an infant in the Catholic Church. After she was “born again” in a fundie church, she and her husband were baptized again. After a while, they left that church, joined a new one, and were baptized again.

When they left the second church, Marico wanted to be baptized again in their new church. Her husband put his foot down and said no, we’ve already been baptized twice!

So apparently in her (very) confused theology, once saved, always saved - except if you are Catholic. And once baptized, you must be baptized again if you change churches because your baptism doesn’t stay with you.

Yes Philena–interestingly according to the posters on that site (Former Catholics for Christ) baptism effects absolutely nothing. It is merely a symbolic act and a way of making a public statement about your belief.

I post there as Kim Zef—they haven’t stolen my peace yet, but they’ve given me some good laughs. There are several other Catholic posters there who give them a run for their money. Come back and have a look. Perhaps it’s easier for me to tolerate their outrageous comments because I grew up S. Baptist and have heard it all before.
