Richard Pipes , the Polish American academic who specialized in Russian history, has just departed into eternity.
Questions from the referenced article:
Why do the Russians still give us trouble even though the Cold War has long ended?
The US is giving Russia trouble by closing down their embassies and ignoring their promise not to extend NATO.
Why do they invite the terrorist Hamas leaders to Moscow?
To promote peace in the region. Hamas is one of the players who need to be involved in any peace discussion. [This question was not asked but: Why do they invite Netanyahu to Russia? The same answer.]
Why do they cut off natural gas to Ukraine and thereby reduce its flow to Western Europe?
Because Ukraine does not pay its bills.
Why do they harass foreign non-governmental organizations, accusing them of espionage and incitement to revolution?
Because they are spies and are working against the current government of Russia.
Why do they carry out joint military exercises with the Chinese, clearly aimed at Taiwan?
Because they have a border with China and want to promote friendly relations with their biggest neighbor.

Russia is gangster capitalism and gangster’s state. They themselves are in the swamp, and other nations keep and prolong in the swamp.
There is no competition in big business or politics.
They may be amused by stating the victories of many polar world, but their world is primitive and will not lead to any improvement in the quality of life of millions ordinary people.
Their government does not see millions of young Ukrainians, their desires, their dreams, they see in every thing only the US State Department, Washington, Brussels, etc

And what about Ukraine? Is it true that Ukraine is even more of a gangster state. The US supports Ukraine and its gangster capitalism and even Joe Biden’s son is taking part as a member of the board of directors of Burisma, an oil and gas company in Ukraine.

Russia has several political parties with representation in the Duma.

Inside Russia there is a “handout”, and market competition is crushed there, and without it there can be no development.
And about the election, then everything has already been decided a long time ago before the election.

Not everything, at least not all representation in the Duma.
As far as Putin is concerned, all the polls show he is quite popular in Russia.
BTW, do you agree that Ukraine today is a gangster state?

I disagree.
Our situation is not as bad as in Russia.
The most important thing that we escaped from the clutches of the Kremlin, headed for the West.
No matter how hard it is to solve everything in the long term, and time will prove that turning our sailboat in the direction of the West we went the right way.
Inside the country, a lot of problems: the hybrid war in Donetsk/Lugansk, the currency has risen in price, prices have risen.
In Ukraine, there is a reform of the police, visa - free regime with the EU, there was no economic collapse, and in Russia all real troubles are just beginning.
