A non-Christian friend asked me this today and I couldn’t come up with an answer that satisfied her…so I’ll ask here. Why was it necessary for Jesus to become human and “die for our sins?” What did Jesus’ living and dying accomplish that God couldn’t have accomplished with just a wave of his hand?

The simple answer is that it was necessary because God decided that this was the manner in which He would forgive mankind for original sin and set us on the path to heaven. The truth is, God could have chosen any method He wanted–up to and including just yelling down from the clouds “Okay, down there! I’m tired of this fight–I forgive you already!”

The way God chose though is–at last to me–far more profound than simply Jesus coming to earth, being crucified, dying and rising again. I think God was trying, by final example, to show man how He expected us to live and die. After all, man didn’t seem to get the picture any other way. So God finally gave up and showed us once and for all! And, He did a pretty amazing job of it, didn’t He?👍

God could have, but it was fitting for him to come in the flesh and demonstrate the ultimate love for us.

God himself humbled himself into his creation, lived with us, taught us, loved is, and died, as a sacrifice for our sins.

He took our place.

He sufferers death for us so we can live.

God could with a wave of his hand just destroy creation and all souls and go back to how it was before, he has plans much grander than our visions.

IS!

Actually one CAN reject the way, the truth and the life per free will.

But then you’d have no way, no truth, and no (real) life as it’s supposed to be for eternity.

You are probably wondering why His bloody sacrifice was necessary. Apparently it was though, for when Jesus Himself in the Garden of Olives asks for the cup to be removed from Him, then said “nevertheless … may THY will not mine be done …” well … He was strengthened by an Angel – but went forth that same DAY.

I’m at peace with what was done (for me). Proposing counter-solutions to Almighty God at this late date might possibly be presumptious of me. 😃

As if somewhere in heaven Our Lord would slap His head like “I could have had a V-8!” upon hearing my “much better plan”. :nope::whistle:

I would say that it also has to do with relationship with God.

Back with Adam and Eve, God had a good relationship with Mankind, but Mankind fractured that good relationship with sin, And from then on, Man had a shaky relationship with God as a natural consequence of sin. The animal sacrifices weren’t good enough to amend the relationship. It’s like trying to amend a relationship by buying gifts, it doesn’t really do anything.

To be able to amend the relationship between God and Mankind a sacrifice had to be made on God’s part, because Mankind with its flaws, is not capable of amending such a relationship. So, God humbled himself, becoming incarnate by the power of the Holy Spirit and was brought into the world through the Blessed Virgin Mary. By becoming one of us, God is able to come down to our level and reintroduce himself to us in a way that we can relate to. By doing this, those who followed Jesus were able to trust in God’s power again, instead of reverting to powerless idols. God showed us his ultimate love and affection for us by sacrificing himself on the cross and dying for us.

This is like a friend reaching out and giving of himself/herself to amend a relationship instead of relying on cheap gifts. This is how a relationship is really mended, by each side giving of themselves, and loving each other. This is what God did for us.

And God continues to reach out to us, and the way we reach back is through Christ, his message and his sacrifice.

Because of the mended relationship, people who amend their personal relationship with God are able to attain an eternal life with him, the source of life, love, and happiness.

My 2 cents.

The incarnation and Atonement constitute the ultimate proof and demonstration of 1) God’s existence: so we’ll believe in Him, 2) of His trustworthiness: so we’ll place our hope in Him, and 3) of His unconditional love, so we’ll begin to love Him in return. At the Fall man lost faith and hope in God, and perhaps hadn’t yet begun to love Him. We’re here now to accomplish just that, sort of reversing Adam’s path, in which case our justice will be complete.

No life, death and resurrection means no message to the Gentiles and therefore a people lost not won.

of course He is necessary. Do you know that the wages of sin is death? no matter what people do, they will face death, not even our technologies this days can find anything to defeat death. you might ask why couldn’t He just forgive everything without punishment whatsoever? It is like this, if someone is just forgiven so easily without punishment, they will end up a bad person since they think that They will always be forgiven no matter what they do. The example is like this: do you know a Doraemon episode where Doraemon sent out a tool to make all adult listen to what the tool holder says? in that episode, a naughty and bully kid named giant asked nobita to help him by using the tool to make her mother not to scold and punish him if Giant gets naughty and bully other kid? since nobita is afraid of Giant, nobita use the tool anyway. It end up that Giant is rampaging everywhere. Bullying everybody that he is able to do so. It is just the same as us. We need to learn something so we can change our bad behavior since no matter how good and kind a person is, they will always have some imperfection in them.

But since God knows that the punishment is SO HEAVY THAT WE CANNOT WITHSTAND AND HANDLE IT, HE sent HIS ONLY SON TO TAKE THE PUNISHMENT ON HIMSELF. All we have to do is accept Him as our only Saviour and ask for forgiveness and change to be a better person.

And about Jesus’s life was to give us example that by His suffering we can learn and understand deeply His love for us. How can we know that God really LOVES US when He just do it by waving hand. He wants to show us His GREAT LOVE so we can understand deeply and accept Him to our life. He wants a life with us in heaven, a real close relationship! The example is like, will you let someone that you do not know to live with you FOREVER in the same house?? that is why Jesus came to show and teach us to have a great and close relationship with Him so we can live forever with Him. Relationship is built through step by step, not just by a waving hand

I hope you understand it. God bless.😃

  1. *]Heaven was closed when Adam & Eve sinned.
*]God told us of His plan for redemption of humanity, Genesis 3:15 The woman and her seed is fortelling Mary and Jesus
*]Jesus life death and resurrection (paschal mystery) opened up heaven and made it possible for sin to be forgiven. Matthew 26:28
*]If Jesus didn’t do what He did for us, our faith would be useless. 1 Corinthians 15:14
*]And if the dead don’t rise then 1 Corinthians 15:32
*]But He rose and ascended to heaven to prepare a place for us John 14:3 providing we do things His way. 🙂

Finite man (Adam and Eve) sinned against God who is infinite. Likewise, when we sin we are finite beings committing an offense against our infinite God. As finite beings we are incapable of offering restitution or sacrifice that is of infinite quality or value. Only Jesus who is both God and man is capable of being our champion and savior because his sacrifice on the cross is of infinite value, and thus provides the needed satisfaction owed to God.

I hope that helps and God bless.

When the world was, Satan and God made a vow. If humans sinned, they belonged to Satan. Vows are unbreakable except by death. Now, God could either wipe out the human race, or He Himself could die. But God is immortal, He can’t die, can He? So he became human, too on our sin, and died so we would be saved from sin.

I never heard of this vow thing. I did hear about God promising Satan that He was going to see him slithering in the dust for eternity and his head would be crushed by a woman’s heel–which had I been Satan would have scared me into abject repentance on the spot…
