Why was Simone de Beauvoir put on the Index?

Also, what does that amount to, exactly? Are Catholics forbidden to read her on pain of excommunication, or what?

I’m not sure, but it was probably because she was an Athiest Existentialist, militant feminist.

The Architects of the Culture of Death is a good book that has a chapter on her. This approaches the subject from a philosophical perspective, and not from a theological one. It places her in the context of her relationship with Satre, and the draws out the moral implications of her philosophy.

Do you have a link? I looked it up, but I only see Sartre on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum, not de Beauvoir.
