Why is weekday Mass shorter than Sunday Mass, I know several things are missing, but why? Why no creed or offering, no second reading? Why not a hour like Sunday?

The use of the Creed, Gloria and 2nd reading are reserved to masses of greater solemnity - Feasts, Solemnities and Sundays. What gets done on which is a bit complicated so I won’t go into details. They are the mark of greater celebration.

Also the homily is mandatory on Sunday but optional on weekdays. It is often shorter on weekdays.

Many people are crowding to get to mass and do their daily requirements. The move is to make it as easy as possible for them.

Of course these are the most important reasons. On some special Feast Days the Gloria and sometimes on Feasts of Mary and Christ the Creed is also recited.

I am grateful that for the most part they are only 30 minutes because when I have to work I would not be able to attend an hour Mass every day.

My answer for the extended time on Sunday is music (in addition to the above mentioned extras) and longer Communion lines.

I love the music and the hymns but they do take time. The Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer take much more time to sing than to say. I also believe that music often touches the heart in a more profound way than the spoken word.
When we have the choir at a midweek feast day Mass, I know it will automatically take 10 - 25 mintues longer than the same Mass without the choir.
