Why would a person repeatedly see ghosts?

A co-worker has been having “ghosts” appear to her since she was a little girl. I am trying to help her: holy water, sign of the cross, etc. Since that time (2 months ago), the sign of the cross has been working for her- the image fades away quickly. However, these visits are becoming much more frequent. Shes a normal 22 yo woman. She’s non-Catholic but went to Catholic grammar school. She does not practice any religion.
