Why would God do this?

Exactly, Kage_ar!

👍

We are responsible for spreading the knowlege of Christ so that kid has a real choice.

Which is why the newfangled “cultural sensitivity” stuff we are fed is inherently wrong. Respecting someone’s “cultural heritage” when it consists of barbarity when we could be teaching Christ is not doing them a favor.

But in many areas of the world, their conversion is punishable by death.

I believe in some way known only to God those people have a chance to choose and decide for themselves. Or God someday may put people in that person’s life to make them see other options. In a global society with technology we have many ways to spread truth.

It was a hypothetical situation.

You added stuff to it to make the individuals more sympathetic.
No, I added what is usually true.

This is my field, I know what I’m talking about.

Instead of presenting Christ first, why don’t we first rescue these children, make them safe, put them in school, and give them something to eat, so they’re not vulnerable to predators? And of course pray? I’m sorry, but these kids need to be secure from predators before they can decide whether or not Jesus Christ is God.

Are you not familiar with the Missionary work of the Catholic Church? We operate more hospitals, orphanages, schools, clinics, aid programs, assistance, than any other orginization on this planet. That is what we do, we feed and clothe and educate and protect those who are hungry and naked and ignorant and imprisioned or in danger, that is part of preaching the Gospel.

Yes, I am aware of that. Trust me, I have to defend the Church every day at my university. But when I hear preach the Gospel, I still think of sermons, not as much works of mercy. Probably because televangelists screwed up that part of my brain:) That’s why I don’t associate “preach the Gospel” with hospitals and the like.

I think we’d be better served with actually going out and helping these people, or supporting those who do, as well as praying, more than arguing over whether or not these poor kids can eventually reach salvation.

I’m wondering why God allows children to be born with seemingly no means of getting to Heaven. Consider a young boy from a war-torn African village who’s told to kill with AK-47s at a very young age. Why does God let this happen? It seems like from birth they don’t even have a chance.

Any thoughts?
God does not do this. God does not allow any person to live in any enviornment without the natural inclination to know and understand right and wrong and to be capable of apprehending and worshipping God. I believe that even in pagan religions, (and the catechism states this), there is some light, and some truth, that God permits to be revealed apart from the Church. Those who desire God in their hearts are given more light by the grace of God.

That means this young man would through his natural heart, apart from the Church, understand what he is doing is wrong and would have the opportunity to turn away from it, and turn back to the goodness and light he has been given. (Romans 1:19-20 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.)

Ah, but instructing the ignorant and counselling the doubtful ARE works of mercy - spiritual works of mercy, every bit as important as the corporal works with which most of us are more familiar. 👍

You don’t believe in Satan?
I have read in my bible that Satan is roaming the earth looking for whom he may devour.
Satan is most prominent in those countries that do not worship The Lord Jesus as God.
I’m not saying Satan is not in the Americas, but he does have a field day in a place that does not have God .
I also believe that God does not hold children accountable. God knows all and sees all.
It’s interesting to me how Christians can look to blame the Lord for catastrophes.
Or is your question, Why does God allow Satan to involve young children in his
scheme to ruin lives.
I also recall Satan entering the garden of Eden. If God didn’t interfere then, why now.

Watching the news tonight I thought of this. The pirate that was captured and is now in New York was discussed and told of an interview his mother did with the BBC in which she said the pirate was forced into being a pirate.

Oh how we love to make excuses for people.

Now you are bringing in an entirely different kind of argument, which I disagree with. There is a difference between saying a person is morally culpable on the basis of natural law for understanding the difference between right and wrong and walking in the light they have been given and making ignorant statements about the economic conditions of Somalia and what kind of social pressure and enviornment this particular man may have been under.

The first is the providence of God to judge the soul based on God’s knowledge of how that soul has responded to the light he or she has been given upon death.

The second is the discussion of mitigating circumstances in criminal acts and a larger analysis of the social conditions that lead to certain criminal activities.

I think it’s both astonishingly ignorant and arrogant to make any assumption about the life this person led in Somalia.

What assumption did I make?

The mother told the BBC he was forced into piracy . . .

Between you and the world there is something that must process the information you receive. What that interface is is a world model.

Your world model right now is one where God created the world and that He is all-loving, all-powerful and all-knowing.

Have you ever seen chimpanzees trying to force a square object into a round hole?

If something doesn’t fit, do you force it or investigate it?

For me a better model of the world that better fits what I read about in the papers is one in which God must be created and believed.

Do those African kids know about God? Do they believe that killing is wrong?

God is not there.

God is in you therefore you do not kill.

God is not in those AK-47s.
