Why would multiple ministers ever use the ambo at once?

I can’t imagine 3 individuals sharing the ambo and doing so gracefully in a way that doesn’t take away from the solemnity of the Passion reading.

Doing a read-through of a play in the middle of mass is necessarily a bit less solemn than a typical reading, but the Church in recent centuries has judged the pastoral benefits to outweigh the disadvantages of this unusual deviation from normal rules. I don’t agree with you that having the participants in this read-through staged apart from each other is necessarily more solemn than having them stand adjacent to each other.

One minister not mentioned so far in this thread is the commentator, who could be using the ambo at nearly any point during the mass.

At Mass it’s never appropriate to have the people read from their seats.

I’m still wondering, outside the Passion, why would you need three people around the ambo during Mass? There is no other reading that would/should be read by more than one person.

Outside of Mass, I can see two people during the examination of conscience at a Penitential Service.

I don’t think there would be any other occassions than those mentioned. On one occasion while on vacation in Edmonton I actually saw it done “from the gallery” which really didn’t seem to work very well and seemed, well, out of palce.

I have always seen this done where the priest, taking the part of Jesus, does so from the presidential chair, the narrator from the ambo, and the speaker from a second temporary podium. Well… if the ambo was big enough, according to the given rubrics, maybe it could be!
