:hmmm: My wife was a Baptist, she converted to Catholicism a year after we were narried (1996). Originally I think she only converted because of me. She is a very busy stay at home mom, 4 kids, and me. I’ve had a MAJOR SPIRITUAL GROTH EXPLOSION the last two years, I’d like to see my wife have one too. As I said she is busy, how can she grow in her Catholicism? She doesn’t have much time to read, she has pretty much no time to read. I just don’t know how to get her more interested, can anyone help? I really want her to understand the Catholic religion and fall in love with it, I thought maybe Mary would be a good idea (both mothers, wives, women) but I’m kinda worried with her background in Protestantism maybe that would be a turn off? I’ve been praying about this a while now, maybe God has led me here, I hope someone can help her out? Thanks everyone!

Dear Dave,

Basically, by your example and your silent prayers and sacrifices. (Don’t forget patience–God’s grace comes at God’s pace!)

In Christ,

Debbie

I think that your question, “How can I strengthen her faith?” needs to be phrased a little differently. Maybe it should be, “Lord, how do you want me to live as a loving husband should?”

Getting on your knees for your wife, loving her as Christ loved the Church, sacrificing yourself for her, doing loving things for her…all of those will speak to her of your own faith and make her wonder what it is that is making this great change in your life, so much so that she will want whatever it is that you have.

Also, if you’re reading a particularly moving book on our faith, why not read to her before you go to bed at night? Read the parts that really get you excited about the Lord and being a Catholic. Ask her opinion on things…at least that will plant some seeds in her mind and keep her thinking about things.

Do you pray with her? Praying out loud together is one of the most wonderful ways that a couple can have for drawing closer together.

But when all is over and done, you won’t strengthen her faith…the Holy Spirit will. All you can do is to be open to His movement in your life…and live as the most loving husband in the universe!

God bless you…you’re in my prayers.

Mary
