I was raised Catholic. I fell away. I got EWTN when I changed cable. I watched fr Corapi. He got Me to go back. My wife was raised by an atheist progressive family. She asked questions I tried to answer. She came to mass and had an “experience”. She wanted to “become” Catholic. I went to My first confession in 10 years and She has been in RCIA for a year.

Her Mother did have her baptized. And She’s considered to have been in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

We had our marriage Convalidated in the Catholic Church.

We where married in a Church by a Minister and said our vows to GOD and each other.

She made her first confession and Fr. said our relations before the convalidation where a sin. Even though We where MARRIED AND BEFORE THE LORD? I “think” he might have thought We had a civil union or where married by a judge? But I said My vows to the Lord and Her. I am NOT sorry and I’ll have to confess that I guess???

PS. there is a 33rd degree mason in Her RCIA class and he proudly wears the ring and talks about it and generally interferes with everything. That’s a no no for a fact. And I know the Higher degree masons worship the “light bringer” lucifer. And “God” was the snake ect…ect…that’s a different subject, but he should be kicked out or told he can’t be both? Something?

Hi JRC, believe yourself, and believe your wife. You will live well with each other.

Sounds like you did not know that Catholics, even the fallen away, are still bound by the Catholic requirements pertaining to Marriage. On the face of it, your marriage in a non-Catholic Church without prior permission from the Bishop of your diocese would be invalid. If you were in ignorance of this before your coming back to the Church, your relations would have been objectively sinful, but you would not be guilty of the mortal sin of fornication. Once you knew, then any relations between that moment and your convalidation would have been seriously sinful. At minimum you should consult your confessor as to what is required of you. 🙂

Well. I confessed to My Priest that I WAS NOT sorry for having relations with My wife AFTER We where married, even though it was not in the Catholic church. I still said My vows in a church TO GOD. I Brought 4 people to RCIA in 1 year. And Go to Mass every sunday. I think I’m Doing fine. I also “confessed” that I think the church leaders care more about the cathetisim then the BIBLE. But I’m not going to “throw the baby out with the bath water”.

If you “confessed” that you are not repentant for sins that you knowingly committed then you did not confess anything.

While you “said” your vows in a church “to God” it is not enough for a Catholic as there are Church laws that a Catholic is bound to under penalty of sin if you do not. One of those is that any marriage must be in a Catholic Church unless dispensed by the local bishop.

If you disagree with this then you disagree with what the Church Teaches.

We can not offer you much help in this. You need to speak to your priest and be repentant for any and all sins you have committed.

I “confessed” I feel no guilt about having relations AFTER being married by a pastor with a PHD in theology in another Christian church I was going to. So, actually I DID confess My feelings on the issue. I’m not going to lie and say I feel bad. Marriage is still a sacrament in Protestant denominations as is baptism. So, Why then would the priest make My Wife feel like a horrible sinner and not recognize the marriage, but the Lutheran baptism is just fine.

My mission( aside from being a perfect husband) is to bring people to our beautiful Church. So far I have 8. 4 pure atheists and 4 other denotational enrolled in RCIA. I think I’m doing the best I can. Then the priest wants to make people feel bad about themselves?

Jesus said "The Kingdom of God is inside you and all around you, not in mansions of wood and stone. Split a piece of wood and I am there.

Oh, wait, that text is heresy but the rest of the scrolls are used as proof if consistency.

I admit I’m not sure what your problem is here. If the Church teaches one thing about faith and morals and you believe another, that just means you need to reform your way of thinking. Sorry to put it quite that way, but your view seems to be, I don’t feel this is wrong, so who is the Church to say that it is? That’s a question that pretty much answers itself.

Not sure why you are posting this on the Traditional board … this is more an apologetics question. Even if your Protestant minister had 5 PHD’s, that does not trump the teaching authority of the Catholic Church. What separates us from other false (Protestant, etc) churches is that we are guided by the Church as the only authorized (by Christ “Whatever you hold lawful on earth…”) interpreter of Sacred Scriptures. She wisely puts these interpretations in a Catechism. You are certainly encouraged to spend lots of time meditating on the bible. But it is not your prerogative to read it and question the church or come up with your own interpretation of one verse or one word of a verse. Our Savior was wise in setting up His church this way as evidenced by the more that 100,000 different Protestant sects with 100,001 different interpretation of what each verse in the bible REALLY means.

Likewise, the fact that another false church believes that what they do is a sacrament does not make it a valid sacrament in the Catholic church. The Catholic Church has very succinctly defined what is necessary for the validity of each sacrament and it was originally codified in the Catechism of the Council of Trent. It does just so happen that Baptism can be conferred by even a pagan as long he is intending to do what the Catholic Church does (confer Baptism) and uses the proper matter and form.

You should not take this a personal affront to yourself. You should accept that a non-Catholic (even though he has a PHD) CANNOT confer the valid Roman Catholic sacrament of matrimony and be done with it. You certainly should not be sorry for loving your wife - that would be ridiculous. But you should have contrition for having left the church (definitely a grave sin) and the subsequent sins associated with leaving such as incurring an invalid marriage in the eyes of the Catholic Church. Your love and devotion to your wife is essential, but it does not confer validity any more than a pagan’s love and devotion to his wife.

So I suggest you accept the absolution of all of your sins from the Sacrament of Penance and carry on.

Being that you were baptized Catholic you were bound to get married in the Catholic Church. Catholics are bound to “canonical form” in marriage and if they get married in front of a non-Catholic minister without any form of dispensation from their Bishop they are NOT married. You were not really married until it was “convalidated”.

These are hard facts, but the truth hurts sometimes. You should just confess your sins and focus on the NOW.
