So my wife’s mother past away couple years ago. Her mom believed in jesus and my opinion was a sweet loving woman. But my wife said to me today, “I believe my mom is in heaven., she wasnt a strict christian and followed everything like going to church on Sunday”. Was it ok to say to my wife I believed your mom’s in heaven she was a wonderful woman or should i answered her differently

Technically only God knows who is in Heaven, Hell or Purgatory but I don’t see anything wrong expressing to your wife the feeling that you loved her mom and think she is in Heaven.
Be at peace.

What good purpose do you hope to accomplish with your response? Respond accordingly.

It is fine for your wife to reasonably believe her mom is in heaven, if her mom had lived a reasonably good life on earth (which it sounds like she did).

We can’t know for sure, but we can certainly hope and trust in the Lord that our loved ones are in heaven, and that is just what your wife is doing, and it’s fine for you to also feel the same way. There is no need to say anything else to your wife other than what you said. It was a good response and it was what a good husband would say.

The trouble with being confident that a loved one is in Heaven is that there is no longer a need to pray for her soul.

The best thing you and your wife can do is pray for the soul of her mother. Offer rosaries, indulgences, Mass intentions. It is your duty to support her journey, should she be suffering now in Purgatory while awaiting the blessed hope of the Beatific Vision.

There is nothing wrong with imagining she might be in Heaven now, and it is certainly proper to pray to her and ask for her intercession. But do not allow that to get in the way of praying for her, because that is what Christians do for one another.

One can also pray generally for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

If one’s loved ones happen to still be there, the prayer will apply to them as well as to other souls in need.
