I’ve been wondering for a few days, will God forgive if someone is thinking irrational and dies something sinfull, for example, self murder. Someone who is stressed, depressed, angry or some other issue, would God forgive that?

Also off topic question,
Does God love Satan?

Regards,
Andrew

Depends. He is a God of mercy, as he said to Moses, but he’s also just. He can either excuse a suicide or not, depending on whether the person is in control of his faculties when he commits suicide. If the suicide is committed out of a despair of His mercy, though, this is a very grave sin and He will not forgive (i.e. Judas). Hope this has been of help.

Your brother in Christ,

Yehuda Dion

An extraordinary example of the “between the stirrup and the ground” phenomenon was described by the Abbe Trochu in his biography of the Cure d’Ars. A certain Abbe Guillaumet met a lady on a train who was in deep mourning and when he said that he was going to Ars she asked, “Monsieur l’Abbe, will you allow me to accompany you to Ars? I may as well go there, as elsewhere… I am travelling to distract my thoughts.” When they reached the village, the priest led the lady to a place near the church and suddenly, the Cure appeared. He stopped in front of the lady in black who, following the example of the crowd, had gone down on her knees. He bent over her and whispered into her ear: “He is saved!” The woman was startled and M. Vianney repeated: “He is saved!”
A gesture of incredulity was the only reply of the stranger. Whereupon the saint, stressing each word, repeated, "I tell you he is saved. He is in Purgatory and you must pray for him. Between the parapet of the bridge and the water he had time to make an act of contrition. Our Blessed Lady obtained that grace for him. Remember the shrine that you put up in your room during the month of May? Though your husband professed to have no religion, he sometimes joined in your prayers; this merited for him the grace of repentance and pardon at the last moment.
The next day, the lady explained to Abbe Guillaumet that she had been in black despair because of the tragic death of her husband: “He was an unbeliever, and my one object in life was to bring him back to God. I did not get the time. He committed suicide by drowning himself. I could only think of him as lost. Oh! Were we never again to meet? Now you hear that the Cure d’Ars told me more than once: ‘He is saved!’ So I shall meet him again in heaven. Monsieur L’Abbe, I am cured!”
There shall never be one lost good; evidently the little bit of good which this unbeliever did gained him the favour of a very merciful God. When all seems hopeless, hope may still be present.
  • We could note here that the Church has never definitively taught that any particular soul is in Hell … although the topic of Judas’ fate fuels its share of debates .

Does a parent love a child who grows up to be a serial killer? Would the only perfect Father in the universe? I think so.

God loves you

and interesting question about God loving Satan. I would think so because Satan helps us to choose God over Satan.Satan brings us nearer to God. So I think God does love Satan as satan is a tool for us to be near to God.

Andrew, you arn’t thinking of doing something rash, are you?

Please say no.

On the topic of forgiveness, that’s why Jesus died for us all- so we could be forgiven.

On the topic of loving the Devil, yes, I think he does- as has been mentioned, he is the original Prodigial son. Through God’s love of all things we can all reunite with him, one day.

I’m not so sure I would use the term original prodigal son.

I understand the sense in which it is meant , but still … The prodigal son came to his senses and returned to the Father - who ran out to meet him, threw his arms around his son and kissed him on the neck.

The devil made one definitive, eternal act - fully aware of all the consequences … I believe it goes like this : “Non serviam !” - forever.

The word prodigal is generally defined in the dictionaries as being wastefully or excessively extravagant , lavish.

On the other hand, in our Blessed Lord’s own words, the devil is " **a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in truth, because there is no truth in him … he is a liar and the father of lies **." [John 8:44]

I don’t think God loves satan, btw. It says in the Bible that God hates the proud: “The proud look I hate” and “The proud he knows from afar”. As the devil is the epitome of pride, those phrases can lead us only to the conclusion that God hates satan.

So suppose someone commited self murder but they did it so they could be in God’s grace and not to avoid anything or something like that (well besides being bullied everyday and everything that person went through.) anyways, would God forgive that, I realize it may be a hard question to answer, but try your best pleas!

To me God LOVES us all, he created us in his Image, and than God sent his only son to
Save us sinners. God dosen,t send us to Hell, if we abanded God love, and do things to displease God,than we will feel his wrathed upon us.
The Devil was a good Angel at one time, and God LOVE him, But when he rebelled agains God,he was cast down to Hell by St.Michael.

If I make a poor decision, I don’t want to go to hell, I want to be in Heavem with God and the angels and be with all my friends who have passed. I also would want to see the colors.

MODERATOR NOTE

Go to Ask An Apologist. In the index, you will find several posts by Fr.Vincent Serpa that answer these questions.

If you make a poor decision then yes as far as anyone knows you will be forgiven and go to heaven. Note, none of us actually know who will go to heaven and we all by educated hope believe that God loves us all so that yes it is his will we go to heaven.

You will have made the best decision in the circumstances at the time. You won’t know until later if it was a poor decision.

If you are thinking of doing something other as you first mentioned then remember that God loves you as you are. God sees you as a whole and knows what is happening. If something is too much, God sees that. He doesn’t measure us how we measure us. Gods love is simple.

Suicide would not be a way to be in God’s grace, since it is opposite of what God commands.

Being bullied is terrible but one thing I tell young people is that when you are older and successful or married etc, none of what those misguided people said in your past matters. If a person kills himself, they have no chance of a future and looking back on things in perspective.
