Will it always be like this?

The more we ray and the more Holy we become, Satan and the demons seem to attack us more.

Even the Saints were attacked by Satan, even seeing him appear when he attacked them.

Do we ever have a day off?

Do you thin that God sometimes tells them to stop as we have reached our zenith in regards to what we can fight?

I know that the Saints had periods where they felt they were spiritually dry but are there periods in people’s lives where they feel free from attacks?

Thanks.

that is one thing that scares me about following the Lord, Satan is tempt and test you the hardest. Temptations are always lurking around the corner.

Man do I wish I had an answer. All I can say is I totally understand these thoughts. I just try to remember that God is letting Satan tempt and irritate me for a reason. He will always have my back no matter what Satan throws at me.

Sometimes Elijah felt “up to it”, and sometimes he didn’t.

Sometimes the “eat and sleep” formula (in a metaphor) is right.

(Scriptures and meditation on them.)

Once, Elijah met three prophets who could bear him company for an hour or so.

(Not missing an opportunity, those times it is rarer.)

Yes!!! Jesus gives us days off of temptation,

Read St Ignatius of Loyola’s writing,
Or thr book “The Jesuit Guide to Almost.everything,” or even “God’s voice within” (books)

Desolation (is when we are tempted)

Consolation (is when we are in joy and don’t feel tempted)

Unless you are a chosen victim soul going through the dark night of the soul, a priest I heard talking said, that moments of desolation should never last more.than 3 weeks maximum, but for most people.are just a few minutes, or hours, or just a day. Of desolation.

God even put this prayer in thr Bible, “Give us joys to balance out our affliction.”

“I came.that you may have life and have life to the FULL.”

Well, we can fight against the demons and they will attack us, or we can go along with the demons and they will not need to attack us. Considering the differences in destination, I aim for fighting.

Satan cannot harm you if you strive for holiness. Temptation is a flaw in human character, not the force of external manipulation. True sin, comes from within.

We overcome sin through self mastery.

For me, no matter how closely I follow God, the temptation to do wrong is the same. But shouldn’t we be reminded of God’s rules for us?

Satan can tempt people and since he has preternatural knowledge, he can be extremely sneaky. We must be on guard.

You are correct to say it is only what we give into that can harm us, but incorrect to say that by relying on ourselves we can overcome sin. The saints speak of the need to rely on God and His help in order to overcome sin and attain holiness.

There’s a saying: “The holier the person, the more devastating the fall” In other words, Satan sees tempting extremely saintly people as his greatest challenge. It’s harder for him to get saintly people to fall, but if he can get them to fall, they’ll take a whole bunch of other people with them.

I would try asking for a momentary reprieve. Also, try offering up your resistance of temptations / the defense of these demonic attacks for the conversion of mortal sinners and all those in the deepest levels of Purgatory. Not only does this infuriate the bad guys, but it helps the good guys! Remember we are members of the Church Militant, and your fellow comrades will always come to your help, just like all those on this forum. Not only will I pray for your relief, but also pray that your spiritual shield may get bigger and bigger.

Self-mastery is indeed a gift of the Holy Spirit.

Demonic attacks are of course caused by demons but God can stop them if He sees its for our greater good. Other times He may permit it so we can earn merit or some other reason. That’s one way He conquers evil, by making good results come anyway 🙂 even though He is of course opposed to what the demons are trying to do. His permissive will is to help us fight the demons and earn merit, not for our destruction, which they want.

We do sin because of not resisting concupiscence, but I think we should rely on God to overcome sin. Of course we put in the effort, we need to. But its a cooperation, not the source. Grace is the source, and we are more successful if we rely on God. At some point also in spiritual growth, virtue becomes infused. It becomes less and less just our human actions, and more His actions. But if we rely in ourselves, we would be humbled through failure one day. Maybe you didn’t mean it like that 🙂 I just started thinking about the topic.

Bumped the thread with my reply above, consigned the last page…

You are given much time off… if you are truly with God…truly.

If you have 100% love and trust in the Lord then you also have no fear of Demons or Satan. To fear them is akin to fearing a bunny rabbit as you stand behind the entire military of the Warth combined into one force surrounding you in all directions and saying “I am afraid of the bunny”

Clearly you don’t fully trust the might of the military around you

I was always told that God would never give a person more than they could handle, but the more i thought about this it didnt seem accurate, as many people take their own lives over stuff they cant apparently deal with, so Im not sure why they tell people this.

Someone else once told me something that I think is very true and accurate though, if a christians life is fairly easy/ comfortable, more than likely they are NOT truly living as a christian. I think this makes logical sense, if a person was already on ‘the wrong track’ so to speak, the enemy would not need to do anything further with them, in a sense, they are already on the road to hell, so the ones he really has to mess with, will be the truly devout ones, the folks that are living as they should.

I think this is why, historically, the few people who do do what they are supposed to according to Gods laws, usually they are ones who do not have very ‘easy’ earthly/ secular lives.
