I received this from one of his email lists, and also from Linkedin:
Dear Friends,

It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of our beloved husband, father and brother, Will Marré. He passed away with devastating suddenness from cardiac arrest while engaged in one of the great passions of his life, surfing. Although absolutely robust in body, mind, and spirit, he suffered from a minor congenital heart defect to which he seemed to have finally succumbed. His expansive love, voice, energy, mind, affirmative presence, optimism, joy has left a hole in our hearts and lives that cannot be filled, even as the pain will eventually ease into gratefulness for having known him, been known by him, loved him, and been loved by him. We remember him with full hearts and savor the time we had together.

The family of Will Marré
I will post more below about him, but for now let us pray:

Eternal rest grant unto Will Marré, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Amen.

Will Marré was brought up Catholic. Later in life, he attended a Protestant church. I am not sure why he separated from the Catholic Church in that way, but his world view and his writings reveal a strong faith in God, Jesus Christ, the love of God, and eternal life.

While his professional writings and talks were not overtly religious, he let Christian principles shine through, particularly regarding human dignity and the idea that each of us is created for a great purpose (vocation, calling) which we must discern.

Around Christmas for many years, he would post Christmas messages which often described his spiritual life and religious views. Here is a link to his 2007 Christmas message; the original posting went offline years ago, but a copy of the message remains, for the moment, here:

I don’t want to argue about his religious views or how Catholic or un-Catholic they may be. I just posted it to show you where he was at in his spiritual journey at that time. He was surely at a place of faith, hope, and love.

Eternal rest grant unto Will Marré, O Lord.
