I mean how will they choose who to let in if they will only allow say 25% capacity at any one mass?

That will be up to the parish. I’ve seen guidelines from another diocese that suggests dividing the parish list into an appropriate number of groups and assigning mass times by last name.

I’d suggest outdoor masses be the norm if he can swing it. Much less risk outdoors in general.

Masses started again this week in Norway, with only 50 people allowed to participate. We use an online ticket system.

I would think the easiest way would be to have people sign up online, or over the phone.

We are fortunate to have an overflow area that is normally used for large funerals, parish dinners, etc. etc. However there is a movable wall between the Sanctuary and this space. So we’ve just opened that up for the time being and chairs have been placed such that they are six feet apart. We already had sound going into that space which is controlled separately from the church proper. So we don’t have to worry about numbers.

However so far, quite a few people are taking advantage of the streamed 10am mass. The bishop has changed nothing other than allowing public masses so the dispensation for not attending physically is still being applied. Those with any kind of co-morbidity issues or illness are still being asked to stay home.

Sounds a bit hard on the A, B, C… surnames always having to get up early! 😜

will be up to the parish and/or diocese.

looks like some will be ticketed.

The downside is that there are not a few families where spouses have different last names, particularly in our immigrant community.

It’s going to be a bit easier at our parish (though the solution may be exhausting for the priests) – for the week between the first guideline and then the cancelling of masses in the Archdiocese, our parish on Sunday had a number of overflow masses in both the parish activity center and parish hall to accomdate the number limits. Once the parish reopens, we might be doing that again, depending on how many people Gov. Newsom graciously deigns to attend a Mass.

My parish is starting Mass back up in a couple of weeks and we have to call the parish office and make a reservation.
