Hi My name is Carlos and I play in Tejano band, fot thouse who are not familiar with the Genre, its basically Country in Spanish. I play at lot of private gigs (Weddings and Quinceaneras) as well as Night clubs. since Dancing can at times be done with bad intentions am I sinning because people abuse the music and use it to Sin.

How people dance to the music your band plays, is not your fault.

No, playing in a band will not send you to hell. Only rejection of God will do that.

I’d say you are not responsible for the bad choices your audience makes when dancing.

However, if watching the dancing tempts you to lustful thoughts (dwelling on the thoughts instead of dismissing them right away), then it might be a near occasion of sin. In that case, you might want to steer clear.

It must be a fun job. 🙂

I don’t know guys… I can’t imagine that God likes Country music.

Totally kidding, sorry. Anyways, I wouldn’t think being in a band is anything bad unless of course you have vulgar or suggestive lyrics that are telling people to do things which are anti-catholic.

DH and I met in a band - and now our son is putting together a band…

It can be tough to play the club scene and stick to your Catholic beliefs, but it CAN be done. Stay close to Jesus, be proud of your faith and use your talent to let your light SHINE 👍

Rock on.

Not as long as you’re not the fella with the accordion (the bagpipes’ retarded cousin) … now, he’s in big trouble!

Seriously though, I hope not! I did when I was younger and am considering the possibility of doing it again, 'cause I love music so much (listening to Van Morrison’s “St. Dominic’s Preview” through the headphones as I type) and I really miss playing.

I don’t think you have to worry about going to hell because you play in a band, and I completely agree with kage_ar: the club scene is not the easiest place in the world to live your Christian faith, but it is a great place to be a witness! Make at least as much time for Mass and prayer as you do for rehearsal (stay close to Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist, His Mother in the Holy Rosary) and you’ll be fine IMHO.

No
In any band I would be concerned about the lyrics of the songs to determine if it were a sin or not. Probably not your band, but there are bands who blaspheme God in their lyrics.

f you are playing country and western probably!

JUST KIDDING!

I played steel guitar in a country band for over 25 years, (back when country actually sounded like country). I sure hope this doesn’t affect what happens to me when I die.

:rotfl: That just cracked me up…I thought you were serious at first! :rotfl:
You are correct… God of-course, only likes Gregorian Plainchant…

😃
:rotfl: 👍

I would venture to say that you are no more responsible than the artist who makes a CD. Whatever a person does to the music on the CD is his/her own sin not the artists.

Someday we’ll have to play together, even if it’s in heaven.👍 :angel1:

I don’t think you’re going to the fire pits because you play tejano music, but I think it may be a bit imprudent to play at nightclubs, because there is always going to be some nasty dancing going on in those places, but like I said, that is only imprudent, not sinful on your part as long as you yourself don’t take part in it, or encourage it.
