Will the world eventually be run by a "spiritual" economy?

Workers receiving a spiritual reward that is basically invisible to everyone else. Scientists can already get rats to work until they drop dead by stimulating the pleasure centers of their brains. Humans act similarly, and I would have to guess that scientists will figure out a way of delivering such rewards non-obtrusively.

Also of interest, we already have stimulants, such as Adderal, that act as a mental stimulant that affects us spiritually (similar to the increased spirituality that monks experience in drinking coffee).

That sounds more like a “mental” economy than a “spiritual” one. The spirit is immaterial and cannot be discerned or interacted with through science. The brain / mind on the other hand…

It’s all well and good to feel good while doing physical labour, even if it’s artificially induced. But you still have to feed and house the workers or you’ll run out pretty quickly, no matter how good they feel.

Posts 1 and 2 are both right.

The human mind is, at least in part, spiritual, but what OP is describing is a cerebral (i.e. bodily) phenomenon rather than a spiritual one.

And no, OP, ISTM that a spiritual economy makes no sense. Economies develop as a result of scarcities. There is no “economy of breathing” because oxygen is not in shortage. Spirituality is not in shortage either.

What I’m saying is indeed mental because it would be impossible for me to explain otherwise. I must use analogies here, and in thinking about the spiritual I tend to think about the signal elicited by a cell phone. How does the signal of a cell phone know which phone to go to? I believe the same is true for the spirit which is tailored to each person. Anyway, this is the kind of stuff that crosses my mind.

So “The Matrix” basically.

Where is the red pill?
