Will there be 1000 Cardinals in the Church?

Popes create Cardinals all the time. And Cardinals lose their voting privileges for Papal Conclaves when they turn 80 (or was it 85? 75? One of those three). So newer and younger Cardinals must be made.
I have always wondered why the Pope set an age limit on being able to vote in conclave. Does this have any historical precedent in the Church?

It’s not a change I would have made, but my opinion wasn’t sought 🧐

I wouldn’t worry about how many cardinals any Pope is creating vs what types of cardinals are being put in position to vote for future popes. The recent trend has been anything but inspiring.
