I’m not sure if anyone has written about this in the past, but…
Since we WILL have bodies in heaven, would we partake of Holy Communion? If so, how?
And if not…well, I was just thinking…that would mean that HERE and NOW is our ONLY chance to receive communion.
What do you think?
I was just pondering to myself if there was anything we could do here that we would miss in heaven. I wonder if that’s what it would be?

Communion is about becoming, heaven about being. When the world of becoming passes away, so will its sacraments.

So that’s my fallible opinion, anyway. 😉

Exactly. In Heaven we, bodies and all, will be more perfectly in communion with God and each other than is ever possible on earth, even when we receive Holy Communion. So no, there will be no Holy Communion as we know it here, but only because there will be no further need for it.

Having said this, it is certainly worth pondering how much our earthly Communions will help to prepare us for the great heavenly communion, and worth resolving to receive Communion as many days as we can, and as worthily as we can, while we can.

Just as there will be no marriage as we know it here, as Christ said. Because in Heaven we will experience such perfect unitive and creative love that our earthly relationships and ceremonies will pale into insignificance.

JL: Just guessing, I would say we will be eternally in perfect communion with Christ, our Lord and God. There will be no need for the veil, of bread and wine, we shalll see him as he is in heaven in all his glory. No longer by faith, but face to face.

Are you referring to the Catholic Eucharist?

If so, the Catholic Eucharist is the Real Presence of Jesus Christ under the signs of bread here on earth. In heaven, Jesus is present so there will be no need to have the signs of earthly bread.

These two websites contain TV ads about Catholicism. The first is from one of the Dioceses which is using them. The second is general information.

Agreed. Some people think the Most Holy Eucharist is only communion with the Church. There is nothing farther from the truth. That is an incredible insult to the love of God.

It is Jesus, really, truly and substantially present in Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. You take Jesus into your very being as you would bread and wine. What humility on the part of Christ!

Sacraments will pass in heaven, since, when in heaven, you will be completely conformed to the holy Will of God. You will not need the aid of sacraments of the Church Militant. You will be in the most beautiful presence of God and you will know his presence well. You will have no more desire to displease him.
