Will there ever be another "crusade"?

I’ve been reading a lot of prophesies; and I know that I should not believe too readily in them. However, I have noticed that many of these prophesies speak about a pope in the near future who will be captured from Rome, taken to the Middle-East and martyrred. Supposedly the city of Rome is also to be destroyed.

Anyhow, this has got me thinking: if a large portion of Muslims declares a holy war against the West (which includes Christians and Jews), would a future pope declare a counter crusade against any invading Muslim forces? Or, would a future pope not declare a crusade, choosing the path of Christian submission, and speak against a crusade?
 
I think he would declare a crusade if it had to be done. If it was a matter of survival it would fall under the "Just War Theory."Plus, if we have another crusade maybe we can reform the Knights Templar. That would be awesome.(in my opinion) I’d be the first to join.
 
I don’t think that the pope really could declare a counter crusade. The swiss guard could help to secure the Vatican itself, but I think that secular armies would do the majority of the work. The pope would likely have a role of speaking against the invasion, and possibly publicly supporting the defensive action. Popes, especially this one are unlikely to publicly support a war, ususally they say nothing if they are in support, and they condemn those that they think are unjust.
 
If the Pope gives the word, have someone toss me a rifle.

This isn’t necessarily related. But what has always bothered me is the low birth rate in European families (1. something children per family) and the large percentage of Muslims in the population who I am thinking are having more than 1.x children per family.

In a few generations Muslims could very well be the majority in Europe simply because they have more children!!!

I wonder who they’ll vote for…

That is what happened in the first crusades. The pope said go, so the kings gathered armies and went.

This is actually kind of an interesting question.

The Pope would not really carry any weight with regard to governments. There may be a few governments heed the call, but I’d doubt it. But could you imagine this? Suppose the Pope came out and declared that it was now the obligation of all Catholics to defend their churches and Priests and their own families, etc.

How many Catholics would take up arms?

Personally, while there may be a right intention, this could lead to anarchy. I highly doubt any Pope would take this step unless world governments had already collapsed due to other events and things were in a state of chaos.

It’s interesting that you mention that. It goes to show that the Vatican still does have a considerable influence, albeit invisible, in world politics today, even if it no longer has a visible secular authority.

With just one declaration the pope can in effect cause anarchy in countries worldwide. Amazing. I don’t say this out of joy but awe. :bigyikes:
