Will voting for Liberals lower poverty, unemployment and the deficit?

IOW, there are environmentalists, and then there are radicals. One, I believe, tries to be grounded in reality and balance; the other is responsible for rant after rant about the evils of population growth, the imbalance between man and the rest of nature, and how the solution to that is fewer human beings, for starters.

Forgetting about the impracticality of this all, I object to the anti-theology of it. It definitely contradicts a Catholic and Jewish understanding of scripture and the order of nature.
🙂
Many of America’s problems come from living an over-indulgent and materialistic lifestyle. The destruction of our natural resources is often a result of greed, pride, envy, etc. Are you saying that the deadly sins “contradict a Catholic and Jewish understanding of scripture and the order of nature” ?

I think we have hit a new normal. Many of the jobs are never coming back, regardless who is president.
NO! It does NOT have to be this way. True we will probably never have more buggy whip manufacturers but there are many growth industries in this country. If Obama were not so anti-business and would get the HECK OUT OF THE WAY our country could see growth and prosperity.

This dismal situation is of our own making and we can reverse it! Get the environmental nazis out of the way, develop the shale oil and natural gas and we can be THE exporter of energy. Our medical device industry is being hit with taxes and Obamacare has been the death knell of many jobs.

Obama isn’t working and neither is America. Four more years of this…God help us

What problems do you speak of? Poverty is often the result of fornication leading to irresponsible sperm donors and single mothers. It is the result of dropping out of school which is provided for free. It is the result of not working.

What ‘destruction of our natural resources?’ So you believe utilizing them while maintaining good stewardship of our blessings is sinful? How about renewable resources such as timber and other crops? There are some who think we should just let the forests grow until they burn and the fields lie fallow so they can be covered with cheat grass or cornweed.

As to overindulgent, yes over indulging in food, sex and alcohol are all contributing factors to America’s problems. I dont know how many of society’s ills are created by Mr Gotrocks buying a new Beemer although he’s usually treated as the bad guy.

As to envy, no one better at ginning this up than our President!

Oh enough of the Obama whine, you DO remember that America has a congress, right??? 😃
Yes and for two years it was completely “owned” by Obama’s supporters. They rammed through Obamacare and the “Stimulus” so let’s say they own those debacles and the resultant death of our economic engine.

BTW I do not whine about Obama, I rail, I scream, and I shake my fists. I throw things at the TV set (usually socks or other soft material). I try to be civil to those whom I know inflicted this disaster upon us. I am seeking Spiritual Direction to prevent complete despair at imagining four more years of that _______ man. But I do not whine!

Your assessment of poverty is extremely offensive. Many people are out of work through no fault of their own and doing the best they can to keep their families together and food on the table.

I believe that returning to a simpler way of life could do much to heal the issues the OP was asking about.

I will pray that you find peace.

The poor in America are no richer for the last four years, unless access to food stamps is to be the measure to greater wealth on their behalf. Usually people who work for a living tend to be richer and better off in all aspects of their lives on account of working for their daily bread. Maybe that is just a conservative mantra though.

Rich seem to be getting richer in comparison, by most accounts that academics give us anyway. They will likely have to be paying their tax accountants a bit more in the years ahead. We can expect more wealth invested offshore too.

This is the status quo in America, and liberals and the left seem satisfied enough with those results.

No, not at all! 🙂 I definitely agree with you about materialism and avarice! And it is to be noted that yes, pride plays a part in such greed. (Translation: material tatus symbols!)

What contradicts a Catholic and Jewish understanding of the natural order is that order inverted: Plants up top, followed by non-human animals, followed by humans.

You have mistaken causes of poverty for the current unemployment situation. Please check statistics. The majority of poverty in this country is due to poor life choices. Now one could also claim that once this cycle begins, it is hard for a child born in such circumstances to imagine any other way of life so the cycle continues. I certainly saw generational poverty in my volunteer work with various social services organizations.

However the chances of being POOR (this is not the same as unemployed) are mimimal if someone does not have a child without being married, graduates from high school, does not get involved in substance abuse, and works. Thus, unlike a third world country where the residents have little control over their lives, where natural disasters cause hunger and sickness, and where property rights are not protected, we have a lot of control over whether or not we can feed ourselves and our families.

As to unemployment, this is probably one of the few eras where an educated young person going out into the marketplace may struggle to find a career path he or she prepared for. We can thank those wonderful liberal policies for the current economic stagnation IMO. Look back in history and the more government tinkered with controlling the economy, the slower the rate of growth. People think Roosevelt turned the economy around. He didn’t and unemployment was as bad after all his meddling. World War II had more to do with it.

OTOH extending unemployment for two years and lowering the requirements for food stamps and other government assistance has fostered more dependence upon government. I suggest that along with other government controls and takeovers are intended first to buy vote and ultimately to control us more and more.

As to a simpler life, what do you suggest, growing our own food? Staking a cow in the front yard? Truly what do you mean?

The only thing I see as satisfied is the stock market and that’s hardly considered leftist in nature.

Well Wall Street did heavily favor Obama in 08, maybe not so much in 12 but still a strong support of him by those evil rich guys he frequently puts through the verbal wringer. So they clearly see that his administration benefits them.

The boom in the stock market is the result of many factors, some of them decidedly Left of center. The Obama administration has continued to keep interest rates artificially low. Why put money in a bank for nearly 0% interest when you can buy a nice stock that pays dividends and has upside potential?

Further the Dodd Frank legislation has paralyzed banks, particularly smaller community banks, and they are greatly restricted in ability to lend money. Obamacare took over student loans, thus removing another source of revenue from lending institutions.

We can continue to borrow and spend until we run out of OPM. Obama just hopes he gets through another term before it happens.
