I was very disappointed a few moments ago by William Donohue’s performance on the Today Show. He was on with a plaintiff’s attorney and a victim of sexual abuse. The issue swirling about now concerns the Archdiocese of LA’s release yesterday of documents in the “sex abuse scandal”. Donohue had a great opportunity to respond firmly, but calmly. He seemed to “lose it” as they say. He may be a very intelligent man with good intentions, and in the past I have seen him articulate his views calmly but forcefully. He practically shouted at everyone this morning. This was very disappointing. The Church still needs better organization and good spokespersons on the issue of the “sex scandal”. “Today” was bad day for the Church. The Church must resolve this issue!

I wish I would have caught that piece today. I love Mr. Donohue, his work is great. A real advocate for the Catholic Church.

I saw him on ‘The World Over Live’ with Raymond Arroyo on EWTN & he does indeed have a ‘straight-shooting’ & ‘in your face’ style to his speech. His voice was raised for most of the show, but what he spoke was indeed the Truth. He was dynamic & he definitely kept my attention. His piece got me fired up (in a good way) & I have become more conscious about people who are out to trash our faith. I suppose when you deal with folks who are constantly finding a way to bash the Catholic Church you can become very impassioned about the cause.

I wish I could reflect on his speech today, I’m going to try & see if the transcript is available to read online.

Was it the manner in which he spoke that you disagree with or what he was saying?

God Bless,
Monica

I saw him this morning. I thought he was very good at not just harping on the false accusations but, also going after the church and diocese of LA for the cover up. I have seen him on many occasions and I think his loudness is just part of his nature.

I like his style and appreciate his good work.

Fr. Joseph Fessio is also extraordinary. Here’s a sample of what he had to say on Catholic Answers Live the other day:

That crisis itself many of us welcomed because it was really only the final consequences of serious problems that had been lying under the surface for so many years and often treated as if they weren’t there.

As much as it has hurt the Church, it was going to have to come anyway. It’s too bad that it was the secular press that were able to blow the cover on what was going on underground and behind the scenes.

The scandal was rooted in false doctrine, in failure to teach and defend the Church’s teaching on sexual morality, and that lead to both contraception and abortion by the laity and homosexuality and other sexual abuses by the clergy.
