Not real sure what to do about this. I have super sensitive stomach. Cough syrup makes me feel sick. Every Sunday the wine makes my stomach upset. I’ve tried everything. I eat breakfast in the morning so I would have something in my stomach, I’ve taken Tums, I’ve tried to just take a little sip but nothing works. I can’t drink anything. When I go out with my friends, I’m the one with the coke. Any type of alcohol makes my stomach very upset. Does anyone else have this problem? What do you do to help? I’m looking at it like this: If Jesus can hang on the cross and die I can deal with an upset stomach. I would just like to be able to enjoy taking the Body and Blood without getting that sick feeling. I try to get my mind right where I think about what I’m doing and not what I’ll feel like afterwards.

You do not have to receive the Precious Blood at all. By receiving Jesus in the Eucharist in the form of bread only, you are still getting the full benefit of His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. There are many who do not receive His Blood for many reasons, and in some parishes it is not even offered.

there is no reason to receive from the cup if you cannot tolerate wine. as PP states one fully receives Christ in either form. Parents please note that before first communion you should have your child practice sipping wine at home so he becomes accustomed to it, and if he has a real problem that might result in irreverence to the Eucharist (gagging, vomitting etc.) quietly tell the priest and guide him to receive only the Host.

The only thing I would like to add is that this discomfort that you experience could distract you from the post-Communion meditation. We all should do what we can to focus on Jesus and what the Eucharist means at this time. If the Precious Blood causes your meditation to be less than it could, then don’t receive it.

You do not need to take the wine. There are many reasons for this, all valid. In my case, alcoholism. The catechism states that taking the bread alone is still full communion. God understands.🙂

(Of course, if they offered Thunderbird wine in the cup, I’d be sooo tempted:D )

I don’t drink. I don’t like the taste of wine or any kind of liquor on its own (although I do like to cook with Liqueurs and Bourbon - yum). When I recieve communion, I take only the tiniest sip - just wet my lips. Try that. I’ll bet it won’t cause an upset stomach.
