Wine Symbolism ? Holy Spirit ?
I have read that when Jesus performed His first miracle of changing water into wine, that the wine symbolized the Holy Spirit.
I have found the verses below to support that.
Are there any other scriptural passages or church teachings that support this ?
Acts 2:13-17
“ … others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
14 But Peter … addressed them, “… For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day; 16 but this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 ‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh…”
Ephesians 5:15-18
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise … And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit …”
Luke 5:37-39
“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved. And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he says, ‘The old is better.’"
Thanks,
John
