wisdom = feminine in Proverbs?

From a discussion I’m having with a “gnostic” She writes “When Alexander and Athanasius were crafting the Trinitarian god in their own image, they changed the gender of Wisdom from feminine to masculine. They said that references to Wisdom in the eighth chapter of Proverbs were references to Jesus. It’s in the historic record. Look it up.”

Actually the wisdom is also thought of as the Blessed Virgin Mary.

I’ve also heard that because Wisdom is an internal thing, it is therefore Feminine.

Things that are external are male, such as strength of body and such.

Makes sense if you think of how God made us to procreate, I think.

I think I know what they are asserting but I want to get (name removed by moderator)ut from others. The most bizarre and unsubstantiated claims have often come from this person. I’ve seen them post on several sites including Jimmy Aikens site.

Feminine pronouns were used for “wisdom” in Proverbs because in both the Hebrew original and the Greek Septuagint the words for wisdom were feminine. It’s a grammar thing, not an anthropomorphization thing. (Altho the writer of “The Wisdom of Solomon” did sort of pick this up and run with it.)

Just a question, not meant to be a challenge of any kind, but if the writer or Wisdom “picked this up and ran with it” and Wisdom was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and it is considered scripture…wouldn’t his “picking it up and running with it” have inspired significance in relaying the feminine aspect of diety?

No, just the inspired significance of his feminine anthropomorphization of the concept of wisdom, based on the grammatical gender.
