Since marriage is under attack from within
with cohabitation, divorce, abuse, etc.

maybe it would be worth listening to the wisdom of an eight year old hero that was once interviewed on Johnny Carson.

The third grader had recently rescued two friends from a coal mine in West Virginia.
As Johnny questioned the little guy,
It was very apparent that this young hero believed in God.
So Johnny asked him if he attended Sunday school?
Yes, was the quick reply….
And last week, the lesson was about when Jesus went to a wedding
And turned the water into wine.
The audience roared…but Johnny kept a straight face
And asked him further….what did you learn from this story?
And the 3rd grader said….If you are going to have a wedding,
Make sure you invite Jesus

My advice is to encourage your family, friends or if you have not done it already, make sure your marriage is a sacramental one…one in church, not in Vegas wedding chapel, or one in court…invite Jesus to the wedding so that he can be the third party in your covenantal relationship.
He will be there with you when the wine appears to run out in your marriage. I guarantee it! He’s done it for my own!

Our priest actually used this line in his homily this morning. He went another way with the symbolism, but I really appreciate your take on it. He has replenished the wine for our marriage, too.

I think this must have been in the “ideas for sermons” thing because our parish priest also used this story. I’m sitting there, with my divorce less than two weeks old, and my annulment not yet started, totally inspired and wondering what my role in the Church is now. Yes, Jesus and Mary are in my life now, and I’m loving the company I keep. More importantly, they’re loving me.

We had a different story. It went something like this:

After all the good wine at the wedding, Joseph woke up the next morning with quite a headache. He asked Mary to get him a cup of water and he said, “And for pity’s sake, keep that cup away from the boy!” 🙂
