Hello,

in big cities, we often walk through crowded plazas and find fellow Christians from other denominations passing around fliers or standing and preaching Scripture.

Us Catholics have the teaching authority from Christ, but we don’t seem to be there…

Suppose someone feels the desire to walk to one such crowded place and preach the word of Christ in order to lead people towards His Church. Is there any such initiative in the Church? Are there religious orders or lay groups that do this specifically? Are there any guidelines for the lay faithful to do this on their own initiative?

For the past couple of months or so I strongly feel the urge to do something in this direction. But what to do or say? Certainly the Holy See has allowed this sort of initiative and the Popes have suggested them (we hear Pope Francis speak about this extensively), but I wonder what the response has been at the local (diocesan) level. How wonderful if there were some sort of support from the Church on this.

I would gladly bring this idea to the parish, but would it not sound a bit odd? Is this not the kind of thing that people just are supposed to do spontaneously?

In short: I’d appreciate your thoughts, comments, suggestions, criticism…thank you very much!

Check with your diocese’s evangelization office. You can also join St Paul Street Evangelization group in your area or start a new one. Go to their website for more info - streetevangelization.com/.

Hope this helps!!
