I agree that there are always bad eggs, but that the good produced by the rest of us is much greater. I personally struggle with. I struggle with absolute authority of the Catholic Chain of command. I’ve been told I can’t treat the Catholic Church as a corporation and keep fighting my way from priest to bishop all the way up to pope when I want an answer.
Someone told me the priest is like the president; doubtful any grievance could personally make it to him.
I struggle that the rules do not apply to everyone all the time. If you live in a country where the state will harm you for being married catholic, the church might allow you to wed under god but not civilly. If you and your fiancee struggle with debilitating illness and therefore cannot afford to file with the state, the catholic church will not take mercy on your cause. I urged that a priest take the issue to a bishop and beyond, and they laughed in my face. At least they say they’ll pray for us.
We want to reconcile with the church, I go for a nice message, my fiancee (the catholic) does confession with the priest that showed us compassion–he understands what problems we face and the challenge of being forgiven like people who must live under an oppressive state. He gladly gives her confession so she can receive communion each week. We want something bigger then that because we want to be right…
When I can be understood and allowed to marry under the church, I’m converting right way. My wife is catholic, I have a huge catholic family, it would be so unifying to be catholic.
