I don’t know whether all visitors to this sub-forum would readily understand this story and the reference to “Zhyd”.

Perhaps some background on Vertep might be in order, so that all can appreciate the story (and the social progress) more completely.

In my opinion its a sign of love and care from Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church , who wants to show that no one is excluded from God’s love.
That Christmas tradition is known on the west of Ukraine for a long time , and it did not offend any one , but a noble decision was made to prevent some people from being offended even by that funny image…

I could not agree more! I understand there was solid, responsible leadership from the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv on this subject. Here is a link to their “Appeal” (in English):
