I love our country and the free market, and capitalism has many merits. But capitalism run amok infects society negatively.
The mindset of many Catholics is like that of a consumer: the faith is just one of many choices, so they’ll pick a different Church or religion, or pick what teachings they want to follow, etc. Everything is seen as a consumerist choice. But God’s will and commandments are not choices.

Technically they are, unless you believe in compelled conversion.

Saying something has to be chosen doesn’t mean that’s its not a moral imperative. God can require something - we humans still have to choose to comply.
