Woman using her own body as “flesh mattrice” to save neighbor’s falling child, can’t afford surgical fees and is about to be paralyzed for life
translated by me
Aug 17th, yesterday afternoon the rain was coming down heavily at Yunyang town, Huo Xuegao crossed every streets trying to borrow money. at the same time, his wife, Tan Yongqing, was lying on the bed of People’s Hospital unable to move – 10 days ago, trying to save neighbor’s child, she used her own body as a mattrice. the child was only lightly injured but Tan received fractures in the vertebrae and both feet. surgeons said they planned to operate on Tan for the 2nd time this morning but by 8pm yesterday, Huo still couldn’t get enough money.
Acting as flesh mattrice to save child
Aug 7th 2:40pm Tan was going shopping. arriving at No 8 Lianhua Rd, she spotted neighbor’s child Li Lin was stepping back towards a 10m deep cliff without barriers. Tan tried to talk to stop the child and ran towards him. the child fell off the cliff.
Tan grabbed the child’s trousersers and use her left hand to hug the child tightly. when they fell to the ground, the child hit Tan’s body, but Tan’s buttock direct struck the ground. she immediately felt the pain all over her body and her feet going numb. Nearby residents sent them to a town first aid station. and checks revealed the child had only scratches on the head and knee. But Tan’s 2nd joint of vertebrae had an explosive fracture and partial paralysis. her heel had cominute fractures. due to the seriousness of Tan’s injury she was sent to People’s Hospital in the town.

Can’t afford operations. Good woman faces paralysis
Tan currently holds no job. Her 7 year old daughter are in grade one in an elementary school. The whole family depends Huo’s meager income of $100 per month by teaching in a village school
on Aug 9th, Huo managed to borrow 10 000 yuan ($1 250) which allowed doctors to operate on Tan’s vertebrae. she gained a little strength after the operation but was still paralyzed on bed. Today, doctors will operate on her left heel, and Tan still need at least 5000 yuan ($625). By 8pm yesterday, Huo failed to borrow a penny in the rain.

Tan’s doctor said, in the most ideal situation, Tan still need 3 operations and 50 000 yuan($6250) for a full recovery. If they can’t operate on her in time, she may well be paralyzed for life

The child is the most important. Have never regretted
Reporter: after the accident, have you talked to your neighbor about medical fees?
Tan: No, their family is also in poverty
Reporter: Have you regretted? Have you considered demanding medical fees through legal actions?
Tan: The child is the most important, I’m pleased as long as he’s OK. I just follow my instinct to rescue him, nothing else in mind, nothing to regret.

I don’t know what I should say about the following case:
Aug 10th, Peking, girlfriend suddenly jumped into a river after quarreling with her boyfriend. her boyfriend jumped into the river to save her. she was rescued but her boyfriend was drowned. the boy’s parents took the girl and her family to court and asked for a “death compensation” of 200 000 yuan($25 000)

I would simply say the family can’t possibly be honoring their son who willingly risked his life to save that of another.

You retorted and translated some heartbreaking cases where people like the ones on this board would want to help.

Have you considered working with the people who run Catholic Answers to create some sort of Tax Deductable charity which would help some of the people you’ve reported on? or, To see if there is a pre-existing Catholic charity which could help if money were sent them?

I understand that Cathoic Answers would probably have to run it or collect and tranfer tha money in either case if they got involved, but it might be worth asking.

Blessed are they who act to save the Innocent, Michael

Michael:
I certainly would like a charity to help them. In china media report is restricted and only one report of each case. then every news site copies the report. if contact information is listed then we can help them. if not, perhaps the only method to help them is sending money to the newspaper first reported it and asking it to forward the money to who need help. it’s risky as one can’t be sure the newspaper indeed has forwarded the money and not stolen the cash.
Any suggestions?
