Good day SpiritMeadow and may God bless you! Then if he is worthy to be an apostle and Christian, then it must not mean what it says on its face, since this is at least to me is clearly misogynistic. The question is indeed whether he compromised the Gospel to solve a problem. That still remains to be seen.
Misogynist? Hmmm…
Some important questions to think about… is it misandrist for Paul to command the husband to give himself up for his wife or for Peter to warn the husband that he risks having his prayers going unheard for failing to properly honor his wife?
It sounds like you have been exposed to distortions of the biblical teaching on men and women and more specifically husbands and wives: different roles, equal dignity. Please know that a wife being in subjection to her husband, as Jesus is to the Father, does not make either her inferior or him superior. Another question: can a husband be saved through childbearing?
