Then if he is worthy to be an apostle and Christian, then it must not mean what it says on its face, since this is at least to me is clearly misogynistic. The question is indeed whether he compromised the Gospel to solve a problem. That still remains to be seen.

Some important questions to think about… is it misandrist for Paul to command the husband to give himself up for his wife or for Peter to warn the husband that he risks having his prayers going unheard for failing to properly honor his wife?

It sounds like you have been exposed to distortions of the biblical teaching on men and women and more specifically husbands and wives: different roles, equal dignity. Please know that a wife being in subjection to her husband, as Jesus is to the Father, does not make either her inferior or him superior. Another question: can a husband be saved through childbearing? The woman is blessed in many ways! I thank God for the gentle and quiet spirit in woman which is very precious in His sight!

We must remember here that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. Everything that’s in there is there because God wanted it to be there. Even if Paul were - hypothetically speaking - a misogynist, God would not allow his misogynism to be incorporated into His word.

Sadly for some, it would mean exactly that. For those who think that Paul was simply announcing God’s decision that women were unfit to preach, then I would like to see how they handle other parts in Paul which reflect that women were preaching and teaching in the early church.

Why or why does this country which claims to be the bastion of democratic principles always appear so backward and continue to produce such deeply paternalistic men?

I believe that the passages in question are specifically referring to holy orders. Women cannot speak with teaching authority (i.e. homilies, etc.). Women can teach, but not in the capacity as bishops or priests.
