There are a number of women, lay and religious, who are well trained in Spiritual Theology. In fact, spiritual theology is not a required course in the formation of a priest. It’s an elective. Most priests do spiritual direction by intuition. Some have a natural gift for it and others do not. That’s just the way it works. I always use teaching as an example. Not everyone who teaches is trained to be a teacher. However, some people are naturals. Are there women spiritual directors?
